SQUADS AND THE SQUAD STRUCTURE

SQUAD CRITERIA

Swimmers ready to swim

T – Turn up to all sessions at least 5mins early, to be ready for session start time.

R – Ready all equipment (including fluids), before session starts.

A – All sets to the best of your ability (they are designed to make you a better).

I – Include correct turns in all events.

N – No breathing last stroke in and 1ststroke out of turns.

S – Streamline and 4 Butterfly Kicks off ALL Walls.

M – Maintain perfect technique under in all training sessions and sets.

A – Arrive to each training session with a ‘CAN DO’ attitude.

R – React positively to all coach feedback (this is aimed to make you better).

T – Try your best at every session.

T – Turns done correctly are the difference between good and great.

R – Remind yourself of your goals when training gets tough (push through).

A – Attend all sessions as directed by your Coach to achieve your goals.

I – If you put the work in the results will come.

N – NO shortcuts!!!

H – Help your teammates through tough sets (together everyone achieves more).

A – All training sessions are an opportunity to improve yourself.

R – Remember to finish each repeat/set at the wall with correct finishes.

DVASC SQUAD STRUCTURE

Swimmers at DVASC progress through a number squads as their technique, speed, ability and stamina improves.  The criteria for each squad is set out to help swimmers (& parents) understand what is expected from each squad and to highlight steps for progression.

Squad membership and progression is at the discretion of the head coach.

  • ‘Gold Youth’ Squad is a highly competitive Squad for Youth Swimmers (aged 14+) who are committed to swimming.
  • Swimmers in this squad are expected to attend a minimum of 5 pool sessions per week to retain their place in the squad.
  • Swimmers should hold the ambition to be at North West Regional standard with potential to achieve British/ASA National Qualification.
  • Adhere, embrace and commit to the Training Philosophy as set out above.
  • Arrive poolside at least 10mins prior to the session start time and be ready for the session on time (communicate to their coach where this isn’t possible)
  • Ensure all skills are performed to your best through all sets, including streamlining, race turns, finishes etc. These are the difference between good and great.
  • Be disciplined under ALL conditions in training and competition.
    Communicate to Head Coach all holidays and exams.
  • Attend ALL target meets as set out by the Head Coach.
  • Show respect to all members of DVASC and other clubs, including swimmers, parents, coaches and officials at all times in line with the DVASC Code of Conduct. You are the role models for the younger swimmers.
  • Swimmers not meeting the requirements of this squad may be moved to another squad and their place offered to another swimmer at the discretion of the coach.
  • Enjoy the sport.
  • ‘Gold Age’ Squad is a highly competitive Squad for Age Group Swimmers (aged 13-15) who are committed to swimming.
  • Swimmers in this squad are expected to attend a minimum of 4 pool sessions per week to retain their place in the squad.
  • Swimmers should hold the ambition to be at Cheshire County standard with potential to achieve North West Regional.
  • Adhere, embrace and commit to the Training Philosophy as set out above.

  • Silver’ Squad is a transition squad between Gold & Bronze squads and a competitive squad for Age Group Swimmers (aged 10-12) who are committed to swimming.
  • Swimmers in this squad are expected to attend a minimum of 4 pool sessions per week to retain their place in the squad.
  • Swimmers should hold the ambition to be at Cheshire County standard with potential to achieve North West Regional.
  • Adhere, embrace and commit to the Training Philosophy as set out above.
  • Arrive poolside at least 10mins prior to the session start time and be ready for the session on time (communicate to their coach where this isn’t possible)

  • Swimmers in this squad are expected to attend a minimum of 3 pool sessions per week sessions to retain their place in the squad.
  • Swimmers should hold the ambition to be at North Midlands standard with potential to achieve Cheshire County standard.
  • Adhere, embrace and commit to the Training Philosophy as set out above.
  • Arrive poolside at least 10mins prior to the session start time and be ready for the session on time (communicate to their coach where this isn’t possible.
  • Ensure all skills are performed to your best through all sets, including streamlining, race turns, finishes etc. These are the difference between good and great.
  • Be disciplined under ALL conditions in training and competition.
  • Communicate to Head Coach all holidays.
  • Attend ALL target meets as set out by the Head Coach.

  • ‘Development 3’ Squad is a competitive squad for Junior Swimmers (aged 8 – 11) who are committed to swimming, with a focus on Developing technique, skills and Aerobic Capacity.
  • Swimmers in this squad are expected to attend a minimum of 3 pool sessions per week to retain their place in the squad.
  • Swimmers will be at aiming to qualify for North Midlands.
  • Adhere, embrace and commit to the Training Philosophy as set out above.
  • Arrive poolside at least 5mins prior to the session start time and be ready for the session on time (communicate to their coach where this isn’t possible)
  • Ensure all skills are performed to your best through all sets, including streamlining, race turns, finishes etc. These are the difference between good and great.
  • Be disciplined under ALL conditions in training and competition.
  • Communicate to their Coach all holidays.
  • Attend ALL target meets as set out by the Head Coach.
  • Show respect to all members of DVASC and other clubs, including swimmers, parents, coaches and officials at all times in line with the DVASC Code of Conduct.

  • This is a transition squad between Development 1 & 3 Squads; the squad will concentrate on stroke technique and swim skills along with introducing swimmers to competitive swimming.
  • All swimmers are expected to attend a minimum 2 of the available sessions per week and attend all targeted meets as directed by the Lead Coach. Sessions will be designed by the Lead Coach to ensure all swimmers should achieve the squad’s minimum standard in the given time.
  • Show respect to all members of DVASC and other clubs, including swimmers, parents, coaches and officials at all times in line with the DVASC Code of Conduct.
  • This is a transition squad between Learn to Swim and Competitive Swimming; the squad will concentrate on stroke technique and swim skills along with introducing swimmers to competitive swimming.
  • All swimmers are expected to attend a minimum 2 of the available sessions per week and attend all targeted meets as directed by the Lead Coach. Sessions will be designed by the Lead Coach to ensure all swimmers should achieve the squad’s minimum standard in the given time.
  • Show respect to all members of DVASC and other clubs, including swimmers, parents, coaches and officials at all times in line with the DVASC Code of Conduct.
  • ‘Fitness’ Squad is a squad focused on fitness for swimmers in the club aged 11+ who cannot commit to the Squad criteria.
  • Swimmers wanting to join this squad will have swam in or reached the standard of bronze squad as a minimum.
  • The squad if for general fitness and is not designed to teach swimmers to swim, it also offers swimmers the opportunity to keep their fitness levels up, in case they desire to rejoin the clubs competitive squad structure in the future.
  • Swimmers in this squad are expected to attend a minimum of 1 pool sessions per week.
  • Adhere, embrace and commit to the Training Philosophy as set out above.
  • Arrive poolside at least 5mins prior to the session start time and be ready for the session on time (communicate to their coach where this isn’t possible)
  • Be disciplined under ALL conditions in training.
